4x6WebSized9440Captain David Turner began his career with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. He started in the Jail Division as a Jailer. He began duty with the Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad in January 1990 in addition to his jail position. In October 1990 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Jail Division overseeing the classification of inmates, and prisoner transports.

In October of 1998 He was transferred to Law Enforcement as the first full-time bomb technician overseeing an eight member squad that covers Lubbock and the surrounding 21 counties. In November of 1999 he was selected to attend the ATF National Canine Academy and upon graduation, received one of the first 12 ATF Certified Explosive Canines.

Turner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2004, and continued oversight of the bomb squad. Additionally, he helped to establish the first Sheriff’s Office full-time canine unit with four canine teams. In November of 2009 David was promoted to the rank of Captain and placed over Special Operations. In October of 2014 Captain Turner was assigned as Captain over Uniform Services, where he oversees Patrol, Civil, Animal Control, Environmental, Courts, Communications, and Fleet Services.

Captain Turner graduated from Kickapoo High School, and has studied at the New Mexico Military Institute.
